In particular, a
pleated maxi skirt residing at the hips with a half matte, half silk appearance
exuded an almost grunge feel, taking yet another step back from the old
Victoria who would send body conscious dress after body conscious dress down
the catwalk. The chunky gold chain attached appeared regularly throughout the
show, adding edge to the monochrome designs.
Graphic prints with
block colours and lined with a thick black made them not too dissimilar from
YSL’s Mondrian dress. The prints stood
out against the pure whites of the pleated midi skirts and slouchy blouses.
The silhouettes had a
slouchy and almost masculine feel from the beginning with the opening look
being an oversized boyfriend style coat complete with gold chain and tailored
trousers. However, Victoria manages to keep it feminine, adding a chiffon box
pleat to the back of said coat. Ankle length and sleeveless versions of the
coat were also sent out alternating in black and white.
A complete shock was
the abundance of black brogues that almost all of the models were wearing.
Flats were a bold move, and from the woman who never seems to take off her
heels even more so. However, flats have appeared in other shows like Erdem too;
a revolution in runway. Hopefully there’ll be fewer tumbles on the catwalk.
Beckham going for this look continued the masculinity vibe, as did the simple
makeup and centre-parted, low chignons the models were sporting.
The final look; a floor
length white gown with a pleated skirt, ruffled top and belted with a chain at
the waist really summed up the collection to a tee. Ladylike masculinity. VB
did good.
